Loaded tater tots, affectionately known as 'tachos,' are a delightful comfort food that combines crispy tater tots with a medley of flavorful toppings. Perfectly fried and generously layered with cheese, sour cream, jalapeños, and more, tachos are the ultimate crowd-pleaser, bringing joy to gatherings and casual get-togethers.
6-8ozshredded cheese(cheddar, colby and/or Monterey jack works well)
6-8ozbacon, cooked and crumbled
1largetomato, seeded & diced
4-6ozsour cream
⅛cupfresh chives, minced
Instructions
Preheat over to 375℉.
Heat Up Your Frying Oil:
Fill a heavy-bottomed pot 2-3 inches high with oil. You want enough oil to fully submerge your tater tots.
Heat the oil to 350°F-375℉. Use a thermometer to keep an eye on the temperature.
Fry the Tater Tots:
Once the oil reaches the right temperature, carefully add the tater tots into the hot oil using a spider or slotted spoon. Do not add too many tater tots or the oil temperature will drop and your tots will be greasy.
Fry the tater tots until they're golden brown and crispy, usually about 3-4 minutes. You should do this in 3-4 batches, depending on the size of your pot.
Drain and Season:
Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried tater tots and let them drain on a plate lined with paper towels. While they're still hot, season with salt.
Load 'Em Up:
Here comes the fun part! Pile your crispy tater tots on a serving plate or tray.
Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded cheddar cheese and bacon bits over top. Try to form a nice mound of tots.
Pop them in the oven for 5 minutes until the cheese melts.
Top with a dollop or drizzle of sour cream, more bacon bits, diced tomatoes, and chives. Feel free to customize your toppings as you like!
