If you want your cocktails to actually taste GOOD (you know, like a grown-up who has their life together), you need to make your own sweet and sour mix. It’s ridiculously easy.

What is Sweet and Sour Mix?
Sweet and sour mix is a mixture of fresh lemon juice, lime juice and simple syrup. It is a popular ingredient in many cocktails and shooter like the Green Tea Shot or a the popular Margarita!

Ingredients You Need
- Fresh lemon juice (not bottled!)
- Fresh lime juice
- Sugar + Water (or simple syrup if you have)
How to Make Sweet and Sour Mix
- If you don't have simple syrup, you can easily make your own by adding equal parts sugar and water to a saucepan. Simmer until the sugar is dissolved and let cool.
- Squeeze limes and lemons to get enough juice. (I got ½ cup from each)
- Mix equal parts into a container to bottle and chil for up to 3 weeks.

Storage Tips
I use this bottle to store my homemade sour mix in. It will last 3 weeks in the fridge and 3 months in the freezer! Just make sure you use freezer-safe bottles, trays or bags. (Not the glass bottle)
Sweet and Sour Mix Variations
- Use honey or agave instead of sugar if you want.
- Add a splash of freshly squeezed orange juice for more flavor.

Is sweet and sour mix the same as margarita mix?
No margarita mixes are lime-based. Sweet and sour have lemon juice too.
What can I substitute for sweet and sour mix?
Honey, agave or sugar along with freshly squeezed lime and lemon juice. Ex: if a recipe calls for 1 oz of sour mix, use ½ oz of honey, ¼ oz of lime juice and ¼ oz of lemon juice.

- Add water and sugar to a small saucepan and simmer for 3 minutes or until the sugar completely dissolves.
- Turn off stove and set aside.
- Squeeze lemons and limes. Strain into a measuring cup.
- Carefully pour the simple syrup mixture into your bottle along with the lemon and lime juice. Seal and chill!
- It's okay if the syrup isn't fully chilled. You can chill it in the fridge after it's bottled.
