Thinking of putting together a chips and salsa board for your guests this weekend? Great! Below I will share some tips and display ideas with you to make sure your chips and salsa board is not only memorable but easy and beautifully laid out!
Both kids AND adults love chips and salsa so a chips and salsa bar is a great option to set up when entertaining. Both this bar and my Nacho Bar can be served at casual get-togethers or even weddings! It's really all about the presentation.
Choosing Your Tortilla Chips
For my chips, I chose to incorporate three different kinds of tortilla chips. You can choose any kind of chips you prefer but I recommend offering some flavor options as well as different colored chips.
Serve a batch of my Margaritas with this bar! It goes very well with the flavors.
Supples Needed
I recommend getting a roll of craft paper and some mini chalkboard signs you can write on to let your guests know what salsa they're trying! I placed each salsa on top of a wooden riser to give my chips and salsa bar some dimension.
I used plain white bowls for my salsa. Here is a set of 6 beautiful white bowls you that would be perfect for serving salsa in.
Salsa Options
A chips and salsa bar is a great way to offer a variety of flavors and textures for your guests. I ALWAYS add guacamole because tortilla chips and guac are besties. But here are the salsa options you can choose from:
- Classic Tomato Salsa (Pico de Gallo): Fresh diced tomatoes, onions, cilantro, jalapeños, lime juice, and salt. This is a staple at any salsa bar, providing a fresh and tangy flavor.
- Roasted Tomato Salsa: Roasted tomatoes, onions, garlic, and jalapeños blended with cilantro and lime juice. Roasting the ingredients adds a deeper, smoky flavor.
- Salsa Verde: Made with tomatillos, cilantro, onions, jalapeños, lime juice, and salt. This green salsa is tangy and slightly spicy.
- Mango Salsa: Diced mango, red bell pepper, red onion, cilantro, jalapeño, and lime juice. This salsa is sweet and spicy, adding a tropical twist.
- Pineapple Salsa: Diced pineapple, red onion, cilantro, jalapeño, and lime juice. Similar to mango salsa, this offers a sweet and tangy flavor with a hint of heat.
- Corn and Black Bean Salsa: Corn, black beans, red bell pepper, red onion, cilantro, jalapeño, and lime juice. This hearty salsa is both colorful and filling.
- Avocado Salsa: Diced avocados, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, jalapeños, lime juice, and salt. Creamy and delicious, this salsa is like a chunky guacamole.
- Peach Salsa: Diced peaches, red onion, cilantro, jalapeño, and lime juice. A sweet and juicy option, perfect for summer.
- Chipotle Salsa: Tomatoes, chipotle peppers in adobo, onions, garlic, cilantro, and lime juice. This salsa is smoky and spicy, with a rich flavor.
- Watermelon Salsa: Diced watermelon, cucumber, red onion, jalapeño, cilantro, and lime juice. Refreshing and light, this salsa is perfect for hot days.
- Tomatillo Avocado Salsa: Blended tomatillos, avocados, garlic, jalapeños, cilantro, and lime juice. A creamy, tangy salsa with a smooth texture.
- Fire-Roasted Salsa: Fire-roasted tomatoes, onions, garlic, and jalapeños blended with cilantro and lime juice. The fire-roasting adds a charred, smoky flavor.

Setup and Serving Tips
- Table Layout: I prefer to stagger my salsa bowls while pouring the different colored and flavored chips around the salsa bowls. This is why having the brown craft paper is so convenient.
- Serving Ware: I recommend adding small spoons to your salsa bowls. I did not include them here but encouraging the use of spoons keeps everything sanitary.
- Keeping It Fresh: Consider placing bowls over ice if your setting this up outside in the summer. No one wants warm salsa. You can also add some plastic wrap overtop until guests have arrived.
Final Serving Tips
I would label each salsa to let your guests know how spicy each salsa is. Maybe use one pepper for slightly spicy, two for medium and three for super spicy. Some people do not like spicy foods so knowing your guests' preferences is helpful too.
Have some mini plastic cups with lids as well as to-go containers because they will be leftovers!
