A classic Piña Colada recipe served on the rocks, that's shaken NOT blended. Summertime is not complete without having at least one piña colada am I right? I've turned this classic frozen cocktail into a super quick blender-free version that's simple, classic and SO delicious!
A piña colada is my favorite frozen cocktail hands down. I just love the combination of coconut and pineapple, kind of like my Pineapple Paradise. The flavors just work.
But when entertaining guests at home, it's difficult to make batches of frozen pina coladas in a blender. So NO BLENDER COLADAS is where it's at this summer!
This recipe is simple but classic. Feel free to change the ratios of ingredients if you wish however, there's not much room for substitution. Read more below.

Coconut Cream, Cream of Coconut, Coconut Milk: What's The Difference?!
I know, it can be confusing! The thickness and sweetness are usually the main differences.
So cream of coconut is a premixed mixture that's typically sweetened and made to be used in cocktails.
Coconut cream is thicker and unsweetened, used more commonly in cooking and baking. It separates in the can as you'll notice the cream on top and water on the bottom.
Coconut milk is much more watered down and does not separate as easily. It can also be either sweetened or unsweetened.
Which one is best for pina coladas?
Cream of coconut or coconut milk.
The advantage to using cream of coconut is that it will not separate like coconut cream will. It is made specifically for drink and cocktails.
I used coconut milk in this recipe because I like the consistency better but either one will work. *You may just need to shake up the mixture after letting it sit for a bit.
Why Does My Pina Colada Separate?
If you notice your colada separating (the cream rising), that's because you're using coconut cream as opposed to cream of coconut.
How do you garnish a piña colada?
Common piña colada garnishes are simple but classic:
- pineapple wedge
- maraschino cherry
- real cherry (I think this looks classier)
- pineapple leaves
- lime wedge
- paper umbrella
Can I make these piña coladas in advance?
Yes, because this is a blender free piña colada recipe, it's totally possible! Below I included a pina colada pitcher recipe below too so you totally can! Just make sure to leave the ice out and shake it up WELL before serving!
