Get ready to sip on something merry and bright this season with this White Christmas Margarita. It's a creamy twist on your classic margarita! The coconut milk gives this version a rich, creamy texture that pairs perfectly with the citrusy lime.
If you've been following me here at AGT, you know I am a margarita connoisseur. My pitcher margaritas are very popular in the summertime. But when the weather cools down, you'll want to serve something a little more winter festive!
This White Winter Margarita and my Winter White Cosmo are two of my favorite cocktails to serve during the holidays.
Ingredient Tips
Tequila Blanco – Choose a smooth, high-quality tequila for a crisp base.
Coconut Cream – Opt for full-fat coconut cream for a rich, creamy texture.
Lime Juice – Fresh lime juice for a zesty balance with the sweetness.
Triple Sec – A splash for a hint of orange flavor to tie it all together.
Salted Coconut Rim – Toasted coconut flakes with a pinch of sea salt for a festive twist.
Instructions:
- Rim your glass: Start by rubbing a lime wedge along the rim of your glass. Dip it into shredded coconut (or salt if you prefer a traditional touch).
- Mix the magic: In a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila, coconut milk, triple sec, lime juice, and agave syrup with ice. Shake well until chilled.
- Pour & garnish: Strain the mixture into your prepared glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a lime wedge and a sprinkle of extra shredded coconut for that snowy feel!
- Sip & enjoy: This White Christmas Margarita is creamy, festive, and the perfect way to unwind after a busy holiday season.
Variations & Tips:
- Coconut Milk vs. Coconut Cream: If you prefer a richer, more decadent texture, try swapping the coconut milk for coconut cream. It’s thicker and richer, giving your margarita a more luxurious feel. Coconut cream also works great for a more dessert-like cocktail. If you go with coconut cream, you might want to reduce the agave syrup as coconut cream is naturally sweeter.
- For a Dairy-Free Option: Coconut milk is an excellent choice for dairy-free margaritas, as it provides a creamy texture without any dairy. If you're aiming for a lighter drink, opt for light coconut milk. Just be mindful it may not have the same rich texture as full-fat coconut milk or cream.
- Add a Twist: For a spiced-up version, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the shaker for a cozy winter flavor. You could also try a splash of cranberry juice for a festive red hue or make it extra tropical with a bit of pineapple juice!
- Frozen White Christmas Margarita: For a cool, slushy treat, blend the ingredients with ice until smooth. Perfect for sipping under the twinkling lights of your Christmas tree!
- For Extra Sweetness: Add a few dashes of vanilla extract or even a drizzle of maple syrup in place of agave syrup for a warm, comforting touch.
Tips for Crafting the Perfect Coconut Margarita
1. Use Full-Fat Coconut Milk for Creaminess
Use for canned, full-fat coconut milk to give your margarita a rich, creamy texture. Shake the can well before opening to make sure the cream and liquid are fully blended.
2. Choose Quality Tequila
A good silver (blanco) tequila makes all the difference. Look for 100% agave tequila for a smooth, clean flavor that complements the coconut and lime.
3. Balance the Sweetness
Start with ยฝ oz of agave syrup or simple syrup and adjust to taste. The sweetness should enhance the flavors without overpowering the tangy lime or tequila.
4. Fresh Lime Juice is Non-Negotiable
Always use freshly squeezed lime juice for the brightest flavor. Pre-bottled lime juice can taste artificial and won’t provide the same zesty kick.
5. Toast the Coconut Rim
Elevate the look and flavor of your margarita by toasting the shredded coconut lightly before rimming your glass. Toasting brings out the natural sweetness and adds a fun crunch.
6. Experiment with the Rim
For a sweet-and-salty contrast, mix a pinch of salt into the shredded coconut before rimming your glass. Not into salt? Keep it sweet or skip the rim entirely.
7. Chill Everything for the Best Flavor
Keep your tequila, lime juice, and coconut milk chilled for a super wintery drink. If possible, pre-chill your glass too. This keeps the ice from melting too quickly and diluting the cocktail and makes it frosty, perfect for winter. 🙂
8. Shake, Don’t Stir
Shaking the ingredients with ice helps emulsify the coconut milk with the tequila and lime juice.
9. Garnish with red and green!
Finish your margarita with a fresh lime wedge, cranberries, rosemary or all of the above!

Coconut Cream Substitution Ideas:
If you’re looking for coconut cream substitutes, here are some options you can try:
- Heavy Cream – A rich, dairy-based substitute with a similar creamy texture, though it lacks the coconut flavor.
- Coconut Milk – Use full-fat coconut milk as a lighter option.
- Cream of Coconut- This sweetened coconut product is thicker than coconut milk and adds a rich, tropical flavor to your drinks. Use it sparingly and adjust the simple syrup in the drink accordingly.
- Coco Real- This is a popular pre-sweetened cocount cream people use specifically for drinks. It's best for adding both sweetness and creamy textures to drinks.
Make Margaritas In Advance!
- Prepare the Cocktail Base: Combine all the ingredients—tequila, coconut milk (or coconut cream), triple sec, lime juice, and agave syrup, except for the ice, in a bottle or jar. Seal it tightly and refrigerate for up to 24 hours.
- Chill the Glasses: You can also pre-rim the glasses with toasted coconut flakes. Simply coat the rims with coconut flakes and store the glasses in the fridge until ready to serve.
- Add Ice and Shake: When you’re ready to serve, shake the pre-mixed cocktail with ice. You can even blend it with ice for a frozen margarita, or pour it over fresh ice for a chilled version.
Pro Tip: If you’re serving a crowd, you could batch the drink into a larger pitcher or jug, then pour individual servings into glasses with ice as guests arrive. Just make sure to give it a quick shake or stir before serving!
