If you're a margarita lover, you will LOVE these margarita infused trifles! They are a fun and unique, mini trifle dessert that's perfect for prepping in advance and serving to guests this summer!
My love for margaritas inspired these trifles!
They would make a delicious and festive Cinco De Mayo dessert or Fiesta party treat.
OR if you just love margaritas, I recommend serving them this summer when entertaining! They are bright, light and VERY quick to make! Plus, these mini trifle jars are freakin ADORABLE!
Ingredient Tips
- Pound Cake- I purchased any pound cake from the store. I have found many I like so choose your favorite. You can make your own pound cake if you want but that will take a wee bit longer! 🙂
- Tequila- Any tequila will work for brushing over the cake.
- Cointreau or Triple Sec- These are orange flavored liqueurs that are usually in margaritas. It adds another sweet citrus flavor too that I love.
- Lime Whipped Cream- We will make our own but you can use storebought if you prefer. I highly recommend making your own though. It is SO much better!
💚 Lime Whipped Cream
This lime whipped cream is SO easy and so tasty. All you need is:
-Whipping Cream
-Lime Zest
-Powdered Sugar
-Vanilla extract
Add all ingredients to a mixer or mix by hand until it comes together but is still soft. We don't want a hard whipped cream.

How To Prepare in Advance For Parties
I highly recommend prepping your trifles a few hours or a day before. These mini trifle jars are what I used. They come with a lid AND a cute spoon that slips into the spoon holder. I am obsessed with them!
You will need to add a bit less to the jar and top with a lime wheel (FLAT) like a lid before adding the actual lid. This will keep things nice and neat.

Margarita Trifles
Equipment
- 6-8 mini trifle jars
Ingredients
- 1 storebought pound cake
- 16 oz whipping cream
- zest of 1 lime
- 2-3 tablespoon powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2-3 oz tequila
- 203 oz Cointreau or triple sec
Instructions
- Combine heavy cream, vanilla extract, lime zest and powdered sugar in a mixing bowl and mix using a hand mixer. This should take less than 1 minute. You can do this in a standing mixer too. Add more or less sugar to taste!*You want the whipped cream to be soft and "drippy". Not stiff! This will allow us to scoop it into the trifles easily. Set aside when finished.
- Cut your pound cake into ½-¾" slices. Pour tequila and Cointreau into small bowls. Using a pastry brush, brush each over the sliced cake. I like to brush the tequila on one half of the sliced cake, then the Cointreau on the other half. Brush generously.
- Slice your soaked cake again into small cubes.
- Start layering your trifles by adding some cake cubes followed by lime whipped cream followed by the cake cubes and finishing with the whipped cream.Garnish with lime zest and a lime wheel! Store in the fridge until ready to serve.
