Halloween is the perfect time to get creative while having some spooky fun! I love theme parties and Halloween so invite me to a Halloween theme party and I'm running there broom in hand! Here's a list of my favorite Halloween party themes with clever alliteration, (who doesn't love that) spooky decor, dress codes, and plenty of food ideas!
I am a bit obsessed with Halloween. If you know me, you know I throw a Halloween party every year. I oddly find joy in the more gruesome, scary decor but everyone is different.
Here is a few photos from our last Halloween party. The theme was "Boos and Booz" so we had lots of scary decor in addition to lots of fun cocktails for guests to try!
Planning Tip!
To save money, think about what items you ALREADY have in storage. Work around those items first then add to them as needed. For example, if you have a lot of clowns, maybe throw a "Spooky Spectacle" (see below).

1. Hocus Pocus Party
- Theme: A witchy, spellbinding celebration inspired by everyone's favorite trio of witches from the iconic film Hocus Pocus.
- Decor: Embrace a mystical, magical atmosphere with floating candles, faux spellbooks, cauldrons, and broomsticks. Use purples, oranges, and blacks to create that nostalgic Hocus Pocus look. Incorporate Sanderson sister cutouts or quotes from the movie on signs to add to a photo booth.
- Dress Code: Encourage guests to come dressed as their favorite Hocus Pocus characters, whether it’s Winifred, Mary, Sarah, or any of the other characters from the film, or dress as witches in general.
- Food Ideas: I have a post on Hocus Pocus themed food to check out! Ideas are a "Witch’s Brew" punch with dry ice for a smoky effect, spellbook brownies, and broomstick pretzels. You can also offer themed snacks like “Amok Amok Amok” popcorn mix with candy corn and chocolate bits, and black cat cupcakes.
2. Monsters & Mocktails
- Theme: A fun cocktail/mocktail party featuring monsters as inspiration for your drinks and decor.
- Decor: Neon greens, purples, and reds set the stage. Use monster cutouts, glowing eyes, and fog machines to add mystery.
- Dress Code: Encourage guests to dress as their favorite monster like Frankenstein, the Mummy, or a zombie.
- Food Ideas: Create monster-themed mocktails like "Frankenstein’s Fizz" with green apple soda or a "Vampire Velvet" with cranberry or cherry juice. For snacks, serve Eyeball Cake Pops or Spooky Chocolate Pretzel Spiders.
3. Blood Bath Bash
- Theme: A horror movie-inspired party with a bloody, bathroom-inspired twist. Step into a slasher movie scene filled with creepy, gory details.
- Decor: Create a horrifying atmosphere with blood-red lighting, plastic blood splatters, and blood-stained shower curtains. Faux body parts, white linens splattered with red paint, and a bathtub photo booth filled with “blood” (red water) will set the perfect tone.
- Dress Code: Guests should arrive as horror movie victims or creepy characters like bloody surgeons, zombies, or slasher villains.
- Food Ideas: Serve "bloody" cocktails like Bloody Marys or strawberry daiquiris, and offer blood-red jello shots or syringe shooters. For snacks, prepare bloody sausage intenstines, meatball skewers with "bloody" marinara, bloody brain, cupcakes filled with raspberry jelly, and a red velvet "blood splatter" cake.
4. Sinister Soirée
- Theme: A dark and brooding Halloween bash with deep reds, blacks, and grays.
- Decor: Skull candles, flickering lanterns, and red velvet drapes create a chilling atmosphere. Use raven statues and cobweb-covered furniture to add to the eerie aesthetic.
- Dress Code: Classic horror costumes are the way to go—vampires, witches, ghosts, scary nuns or priests, and mummies.
- Food Ideas: Think decadent yet ominous. Serve "bleeding" red velvet cupcakes, blood spattered Oreos, charcuterie boards with "finger" breadsticks, and smoky bourbon cocktails.
5. Wicked White Wonderland
- Theme: A wintery, all-white Halloween with ghostly vibes and frosty details.
- Decor: White pumpkins, snowy trees, and delicate cobwebs. Add in sparkling silver accents and string lights to create a wintry wonderland.
- Dress Code: Guests wear all white with spooky, ghost-like makeup. Encourage them to get creative with ethereal, flowing outfits.

7. Spooky Spectacle
- Theme: A haunted circus or creepy carnival filled with twisted fun.
- Decor: Red, black, and white stripes, circus tents, and eerie clown statues. Hang carnival lights, and use fog machines to create a mysterious vibe.
- Dress Code: Guests can dress as creepy circus performers like clowns, ringmasters, or fortune tellers.

8. Tombstone Tea Party
- Theme: An eerie, Victorian-style tea party set in a spooky graveyard.
- Decor: Use pale pinks and grays with tombstone cutouts and skeletons holding teacups. Lace tablecloths, ghostly candelabras, and antique teapots complete the scene.
- Dress Code: Guests should wear Victorian-style outfits with ghostly makeup or skeleton face paint.
- Food Ideas: Serve tea with black macarons, skull-shaped sugar cookies, and coffin-shaped sandwiches.
9. Neon Nightmare
- Theme: A futuristic, glow-in-the-dark Halloween rave that combines spooky with neon lights and a nightclub atmosphere.
- Decor: Think blacklights, glowing skeletons, neon spiderwebs, and bright LED lights. Use neon-colored pumpkins, fluorescent paint, and glow sticks to create a vibrant yet eerie setting.
- Dress Code: Guests should wear all black outfits that pop with neon face paint, glowing accessories, or UV makeup. Encourage futuristic, cyberpunk, or neon-drenched costumes.
- Food Ideas: Serve glowing jello shots using tonic water, neon cupcakes with brightly colored frosting, and glow-in-the-dark cocktails with blacklight-reactive ingredients like tonic water and glow sticks for garnish.
10. Dark Disney
- Theme: A twisted take on classic Disney characters, transforming them into dark and eerie versions of themselves.
- Decor: Use classic Disney elements with a spooky twist. Think Mickey pumpkins, dark castles, and black roses. Incorporate eerie versions of Disney character silhouettes, with spooky lighting and fog for atmosphere.
- Dress Code: Guests come dressed as dark versions of their favorite Disney characters including villains or heroes with a creepy edge (like a zombie Cinderella or ghostly Elsa).
- Food Ideas: Serve “poison apple” cocktails, black macarons with Mickey designs, and cupcakes with Disney villains as toppers. You can also have a "dark magic" dessert table with Maleficent inspired green and black treats.
I love the use of alliteration in every one of these Halloween themes and I bet your guests will too! To help you decide, I highly suggest that you choose ONE wow item to build your party around.
This could be a poison apple bar which could lead you down the Dark Disney theme or the Spooky Spectacle theme. Or if you have a fog machine, the Tombstone Tea Party would be a good idea especially if you have a large backyard! Or simply build your party around a color scheme like blacks, reds and grays which would make the Sinister Soiree a great choice!
